    Good to know:

    Sowing: March / May
    Harvest: June / September

The Orangelo watermelon, an ancient variety of rare quality, stands out for its delicious, crunchy orange flesh and generous production of large, oblong fruits weighing around 9 kg. This marvel of nature reaches maturity in around 90 to 100 days, providing an abundant, tasty harvest. This variety was created by the Willhite Seed company in the early 60s, a testament to its historical heritage.

To successfully sow this precious watermelon, follow these simple steps:

Sowing: Opt for the months of March to May, using cups or sowing on a warm bed maintained between 20 and 30°C. Once the plants are ready, transplant them at a distance of 1 metre in all directions under a frame or plastic tunnel. Make sure you maintain this protection until the end of June, before gradually starting to aerate the plants to acclimatize them to outdoor conditions.
When planting watermelon seedlings, choose a warm, sunny position to encourage growth. As soon as the plant forms 4 to 6 leaves, remember to prune the main stem. This will encourage good branching and optimal fruiting. Make sure to water the plants regularly to ensure healthy, vigorous growth.

To determine whether the fruit is ready, check that it doesn't sound hollow, is heavy and has a shiny, waxy appearance. These signs indicate that the watermelon is at its optimum stage of ripeness, ready to be enjoyed and appreciated to the full.
