The Purple Queen bean is a dwarf Mangetout variety that stands out for its high productivity and ease of harvesting. Its long, stringless pods are bright dark purple before cooking, turning green afterwards. They are tender with a buttery texture.
For sowing: plant from April to May, when frosts are no longer a risk and the soil is sufficiently warm. Sowing periods vary according to bean type:
Green beans: staggered sowing up to the end of July.
Fresh beans: staggered sowing until July 15.
Dry beans: staggered sowing until June 15.
For dwarf varieties: plant 5 to 6 seeds in staggered bunches every 40 cm, with rows 40 cm apart. For rowing varieties: plant 6 to 7 seeds in staggered bunches every 50 cm, with rows 70 cm apart, limiting 2 to 3 rows per bed.Growing conditions: healthy, well loosened, fresh, light, humus-bearing soil is ideal. Ensure full sun exposure, with regular hoeing and adequate watering to obtain vigorous, productive plants.
