Add a touch of rusticity to your garden with our Bull's Neck tomato seeds. This evocatively named tomato variety produces fleshy, juicy fruit with a rich, intense flavor. Bull's Neck tomatoes are distinguished by their generous size and slightly ribbed shape. They are perfect for eating fresh in salads or sandwiches, or for use in sauces and preserves. Cultivated with care, these seeds will produce robust, productive plants, giving you an abundant harvest of quality tomatoes all summer long.

    Organically grown (AB)

    Good to know :

    Sowing: February / April
    Harvest: July / September

From February to April, we recommend sowing Bull's Neck tomatoes in fine potting soil on a warm bed at a temperature of at least 20°C to ensure optimum germination. Bury the seeds about 1 cm deep and keep the potting soil moist but not soggy using a sprayer. Place the cups near a window to prevent the seedlings from spinning upwards in search of light.

Once frosts are no longer a concern and the seedlings have reached a height of 12-15 cm, transplant them into rich, loose, healthy soil. It's advisable to maintain a distance of 70 cm between rows and 50 cm on the sunny side. Before planting, be sure to use stakes to support the plants.

When it comes to pruning tomato plants, opinions differ. Some gardeners advocate pruning the gourmands to increase fruit size and earliness, and facilitate harvesting. This method requires time and discernment, however, as it's not always easy to distinguish the head of the plant from a secondary shoot. Another approach is not to prune at all and let the plant develop fully. However, this requires more space in the garden, with a distance of at least 1 meter between each plant. The fruit will then be smaller but more numerous.

Bull's Neck tomatoes can be harvested around 4 to 5 months after sowing. However, it's important to remain vigilant against potential enemies such as mildew and apical necrosis (black-bottom). To avoid mildew, we recommend protecting plants from frequent rainfall, or applying a Bordeaux mixture-based treatment. Blossom end necrosis may be due to calcium deficiency in the soil or irregular watering. It is therefore essential to water regularly and abundantly, about once a week.
