    Good to know :

    Sowing: March / April
    Harvest: August / September

The Red Asti Square Pepper, of Italian origin, promises an abundant harvest of square fruits, a real feast for the eyes and taste buds. Their transformation from dark green to red at maturity is a spectacle not to be missed in your garden.

To successfully sow this summer delight, start as early as February or March, using cups filled with fine sowing compost, to a depth of just 2 to 3 mm. Place them in a greenhouse heated to around 25°C and keep the potting soil moist with a sprayer. A little crushed charcoal can also help prevent fungus. Make sure you give your seedlings plenty of light to prevent them from bolting upwards. When the seedlings have developed 2 to 4 true leaves, it's time to transplant them into larger pots.

For outdoor transplanting, wait until May, when frosts are no longer a threat. Choose a warm, sunny spot in your garden, spacing the plants 50 cm apart in all directions. Don't forget to water regularly and mulch to retain moisture. Bear in mind that peppers prefer light, aerated soil, but beware of excess nitrogen, which could favor the foliage to the detriment of the fruit. If you're not in a region with warm summers, greenhouse cultivation is recommended.

As for harvesting, get ready to enjoy your peppers around 5 to 6 months after sowing. Patience rewarded with unrivalled culinary delights.
