Good to know :
Sowing: May / April
Harvest: August / SeptemberVioletta lunga 2 is a mid-season variety that promises an abundant harvest of long, dark, flavorful fruits. This variety is ideal for various culinary preparations such as ratatouille, parmigiana or parmigiana.
To sow the Violetta lunga 2 eggplant successfully, start by sowing the seeds in pots of fine potting soil between March and April. This should be done on a heated bed at a constant temperature of around 25°C, either indoors or in a heated greenhouse. Cover the seeds lightly with potting soil (about a few millimeters) and pack gently. Keep the potting soil moist, but not excessively so, watering the surface lightly if necessary. Place the pots near a window to ensure plenty of sunlight.
Once the seedlings are about 15 cm tall, you can transplant them into the ground at the end of May. Choose a spot with cool, deep, humus-rich soil, exposed to warmth and sunlight. Space eggplant plants about 50 cm apart in all directions. Be sure to hoe, weed and butter the plants regularly, and water them regularly at the base. As with tomatoes, mulching is recommended to conserve soil moisture.
Good associations for eggplants include bush beans, but avoid planting them close to potatoes.
As for harvesting, you'll generally be able to harvest your eggplants around 5 months after sowing. Make sure you pick them when ripe for optimum flavor.
Among eggplant's potential enemies, keep an eye out for mildew, red spider mites, Colorado beetles and aphids. In the event of attack, preventive and biological treatments can be used to protect your plants.
