Good to know :
Sowing: March / May
Harvest: June / SeptemberDiscover the Cornichon de Bourbonne, a vigorous, abundant variety offering long, fine, crunchy and tasty fruits. Harvest them young to preserve them in vinegar, or let them ripen to be eaten like cucumbers.
To sow your Bourbonne gherkins successfully, start by planting in March, April or May in pots. Once the plants have three leaves and there's no risk of frost, transplant them into healthy, fresh, loose, humus-rich soil. Place plants 60 cm apart, in rows 1.30 m apart, in a warm, sunny spot. Don't forget to water regularly to encourage growth.
Tip: If you're short of space in your garden, you can climb your gherkin plants on a wire fence. Encourage them to cling to it and let the tendrils do the rest. This simple, practical method allows the fruit to take better advantage of the light, protects it from dirt and makes harvesting much easier. It works for pickles too!
