    Good to know :

    Sowing: February / April
    Harvest: June / September

The Merveille des Marchés tomato is a mid-season variety renowned for its smooth, round fruits weighing 150 to 180 g, with few seeds. Its firm, crunchy, bitter-free flesh makes it ideal for stuffing. It has good resistance to cracking and is easy to grow in the greenhouse or outdoors champ.

To sow the Merveille des Marchés tomato, start between February and April. Use a warm bed (20°C) or pots indoors or in a heated greenhouse, with fine potting soil. Tomatoes need a constant temperature of 20°C to germinate properly. Bury seeds 1 cm deep, cover with potting soil and moisten with a sprayer without soaking. Place the terrines near a window to prevent the seedlings from stretching towards the light. Replant in the open ground when frosts are no longer a concern and the plants are 12-15 cm tall. Plant in rich, well-drained soil, at a distance of 70 cm between rows and 50 cm along the row, in a sunny spot. Install stakes before planting and water abundantly at the base once a week to prevent disease.

When it comes to pruning tomato plants, opinions vary. Some gardeners recommend removing suckers to increase fruit size and earliness, as well as to facilitate harvesting. This method requires time and precision, as it is sometimes difficult to distinguish the head of the plant from a secondary shoot. What's more, the wounds left by the removal of gourmands require care. Another approach is not to prune at all, allowing the plant to develop fully and requiring more space in the garden (1 meter between each plant), with smaller but more numerous fruits. A third method consists of pruning the plant on two branches, pinching the base 20 cm above the ground and keeping only two lateral branches, while removing the other gourmands.

Merveille des Marchés tomatoes can be harvested 4 to 5 months after sowing.

The tomato's main enemies are downy mildew and black-bottom necrosis. To prevent downy mildew, plants should be protected from frequent rainfall and treated with Bordeaux mixture. Blossom end necrosis, on the other hand, is not a disease but results from a lack of calcium in the soil or irregular watering. To avoid this problem, water regularly and abundantly, about once a week.
