    Good to know :

    Sowing: March / April
    Harvest: July / October

Eggplant Rotonda Bianca Sfumata di Rosa is a robust, highly productive old variety from Italy. It produces attractive, round, white fruits with shades of lavender-pink, about 15 cm long and 10 to 15 cm in diameter. The flesh is firm, unctuous and bitter-free, with a sweet, subtle taste.

To sow properly, plant the seeds in March or April in cups filled with fine potting soil, placed on a warm layer maintained at 25°C, indoors or in a heated greenhouse. Cover the seeds with a few millimeters of potting soil and pack lightly. Place the cups near a window. Water the surface lightly if the potting soil becomes dry.

Transplant the 15 cm-high seedlings into moist, deep, humus-rich soil in late May, in a warm, sunny position. Space plants 50 cm apart in all directions. Hoe, weed and ridge the plants, watering regularly at the base. Mulch to maintain humidity and prune plants like tomatoes.

Eggplants go well with bush beans.

You'll be able to harvest your eggplants around five months after sowing.

Downy mildew causes gray-green spots on the leaves, with a white felting underneath. To prevent this, hoe and water with nettle manure and horsetail tea. Treat with Bordeaux mixture before flowering or as soon as the first symptoms appear.

Red spider mites cause gray spots to appear on leaves, which then take on a bronze hue before drying out and falling off. They spin webs on the leaves. Cut off and burn affected parts. Spray with black soap, nettle manure or use a pyrethrum-based plant insecticide.

    Pick up beetles by hand.

Aphids attack leaves, buds and stems. Spray with a black soap solution or nettle manure. In the event of severe infestation, use a pyrethrum-based organic plant insecticide.
