    Organically grown (AB)

    Good to know :

    Sowing: February / April
    Harvest: June / September

The Saint Pierre tomato variety stands out for its robustness and generous production of fruit, weighing between 100 and 120 g, grouped in bunches of 4 to 5 units, extending its harvest into autumn. Its flesh is both firm and tasty, with good resistance to cracking.

To get off to a good start, plant Saint Pierre tomatoes between February and April. You can opt for a warm bed, maintaining a constant temperature of at least 20°C, or use pots indoors or in a heated greenhouse, filled with fine sowing compost. Bury the seeds to a depth of around 1 cm and keep the potting soil moist but not excessively so. Place the terrines near a window for adequate exposure to natural light, to prevent the seedlings from withering away in search of light. Once the risk of frost has passed and the plants have reached a height of 12 to 15 cm, transplant them into well-nourished, aerated, healthy soil, maintaining a distance of 70 cm between rows and 50 cm along the line, in a sunny spot. Stakes should be put in place before planting to support the growth of the plants. Water generously at the base once a week to prevent the development of disease.

There are different approaches to pruning Saint Pierre tomato plants. Some gardeners prefer to eliminate suckers to promote fruit development, early ripening and easy harvesting. Others choose not to prune at all, allowing the plants to produce more fruit, albeit smaller. A third option is to grow the plant on two branches, selecting only the two main lateral branches after pinching the main stem 20 cm from the ground, then removing all suckers.

Saint Pierre tomatoes can be harvested around 4-5 months after sowing, when the fruit has reached full maturity.

Among the potential enemies of tomatoes, downy mildew and apical necrosis (black-bottom) are the most formidable. To prevent downy mildew, we recommend protecting plants from frequent rainfall, and using a Bordeaux mixture-based treatment if necessary. Apical necrosis can result from a lack of calcium in the soil or irregular irrigation. To remedy this, make sure you water regularly and sufficiently, about once a week.
