    Good to know :

    Sowing: February / April
    Harvest: June / September

Roma VF is a robust, productive mid-season variety with a determined habit. Its excellent resistance to mildew, symbolized by the acronym "VF" which stands for Verticilium and Fusarium, makes it a wise choice for gardeners concerned about preventing these fungi. The fruits are numerous, medium-sized (around 60-70 g) and elongated.

To sow Roma tomatoes, you can do so from February to April on a warm bed (20°C) or in pots indoors or in a heated greenhouse. Make sure the temperature stays constantly above 20°C to encourage germination. Bury the seeds about 1 cm deep in fine sowing compost, keeping it moist but not soggy, and place the cups near a window to benefit from natural light.

Once the plants have reached a height of 12 to 15 cm and the risk of frost has passed, transplant them into rich, loose, healthy soil. Maintain a distance of 70 cm between rows and 50 cm between rows, exposing them to sunlight. Before planting, install stakes to support the plants and water abundantly at the base once a week to prevent disease.

The question of whether or not to remove gourmands from tomato plants divides gardeners. Pruning is designed to increase fruit size and earliness and facilitate harvesting, but it takes time and discernment. If you choose not to prune at all, the plants will need more space but will produce more fruit, albeit smaller. Another option is two-stem pruning, where only two branches are kept after the plant has been pinched 20 cm from the ground.

Roma VF tomatoes can be harvested 4-5 months after sowing. To avoid major problems such as mildew and apical necrosis, protect your plants if your region is prone to frequent rainfall and water them regularly to maintain adequate calcium supply and avoid irregularities in soil moisture.
