When and how to sow Voyage tomatoes?

Sow from February to April, either on a warm bed (at 20°) or in pots indoors or in a heated greenhouse, in fine sowing compost. For optimum germination, maintain a constant temperature of at least 20°C.
Bury tomato seeds 1 cm deep, then cover with sowing compost. Keep the potting soil moist with a sprayer, without soaking it. Place the cups near a window to prevent the seedlings from stretching out in search of light.
Transplant the seedlings into the ground once the risk of frost has passed and they have reached a height of 12 to 15 cm. Choose rich, loose, healthy soil, spacing plants 70 cm apart between rows and 50 cm apart in rows, in a sunny position.
Install stakes before planting and water abundantly at the base once a week to prevent the development of disease.

Should gourmets be removed from tomato plants?

Opinions differ on the right size for tomatoes, and every gardener has his or her own theory. In answer to the question "what should I do?", the answer is simple: whatever you prefer!
Pruning tomatoes by removing suckers is not compulsory, but is designed to increase fruit size and earliness, and make harvesting easier.
There are, however, two drawbacks to this method: it takes time and discernment. It's not always easy to tell the difference between the head of a tomato plant and a secondary shoot. What's more, removing the suckers can cause injury to the plant. It is therefore advisable to promote healing by sprinkling with maerl or applying a green clay slurry.
Another approach is not to prune at all and let the plants develop fully. In this case, they will need more space in the garden, with 1 meter between each plant. The fruit will be smaller but more numerous.
A third option is to grow on two strands. After pinching the plant 20 cm from the ground, keep only the two side branches. Then remove all the suckers.

    Harvest

Tomatoes can be harvested 4 to 5 months after sowing.

    Enemies

The main problems encountered when growing tomatoes are downy mildew and black-bottom necrosis.
To prevent mildew, we recommend protecting your plants, especially if you live in a region where rainfall is frequent. You can also use a Bordeaux mixture-based treatment.
Apical necrosis is not a disease. It is caused either by a calcium deficiency in the soil, or by irregular watering. To avoid this, water regularly and abundantly, about once a week.
