Red arrowroot is a variety of vegetable plant belonging to the Amaranthaceae family. Seeds are used to grow this plant in vegetable gardens. Red arrowroot is prized for its fleshy, tender leaves, which are eaten raw or cooked, adding a touch of color and flavor to salads, soups and stir-fries. It's also rich in nutrients, including vitamins A and C, iron and calcium. If you're considering growing red arrowroot, be sure to choose a sunny location and well-drained soil for best results.
Organically grown (AB)
Good to know:
Sowing: March / August
Harvest: July / SeptemberDiscover arrowroot, an ancient plant of timeless elegance, cultivated since the Middle Ages for its delicious leaves, to be eaten like spinach. Also known as "belle dame" for its beauty in the garden, this plant is distinguished by its hastate leaves borne on long, erect, fluted stems, blending shades of green and purple. Its rapid harvest, around 4 months after sowing, makes it an attractive choice for gardeners. It's worth noting that some species of arroche can naturally produce two to three completely different types of seed, which is reflected in this mix of black and blond seeds with varied envelopes that you'll find in this sachet. Germination times can vary accordingly.
For successful sowing of red arrowroot, we recommend placing the seed packet in the fridge for 1-2 weeks to lift seed dormancy. For maintenance, hoe and water regularly during the summer, and remember to mulch at the base to keep the soil fresh.
