Type of vegetableTurnip
The flat white turnips:
- Soil maintenance: easy to cultivate, likes rich soil but is satisfied with poor soil. Appreciates humidity and heat. Since it is a root vegetable, and if you have the possibility, choose a loose and not very stony soil, you will obtain uniform roots
- Exposure: sun or half-shade
- Sowing: 1 cm deep in the ground. Thin out, keeping only one seedling every 10 cm. Repeat sowing every 20 days
- Emergence: in 4 to 7 days
- Watering: regular in summer, less in autumn. The turnip appreciates humidity and heat
- Harvest : 2 months after sowing
- Storage : 3 to 4 days in a cool place. Can be stored in a silo in the cellar after drying in the open air for one day
- Origin: originating in Europe, it was consumed daily until the 18th century when it gave way to the potato which gradually replaced it
