California sunflower seeds allow you to grow a specific variety of sunflower, also known as "giant flower sunflower" or "giant sunflower". This variety is renowned for producing sturdy stems and large, bright yellow flowers. The Californian sunflower is often grown for its ornamental beauty, but its seeds are also prized for their rich oil content and use in food and feed. Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals and healthy fats.

To grow Californian sunflowers successfully, we recommend sowing the seeds directly into the soil after the last frost, in a sunny spot in the garden. Sunflowers grow best in well-drained, fertile soil. Be sure to space them far enough apart to allow each plant to develop fully.

Sunflowers need regular watering to keep the soil moist, especially during dry periods. Once the flower heads have formed, you can support the stems with stakes to prevent them breaking under their own weight. Once Californian sunflowers reach full maturity, you can then harvest the seeds by removing the flower heads and hanging them upside down in a warm, dry place until the seeds are completely dry. Once dried, the seeds can be eaten as they are or used to make sunflower oil.

    Good to know:

    Sowing: April / May
    Harvest: September

The Californian sunflower, reaching heights of 200 to 250 cm, is distinguished by its bouquets of several yellow flowers with a dark yellow center 20 cm long. Highly decorative and original, it adds a unique touch to any garden.

To sow the Californian Sunflower, proceed from mid-April to mid-May directly in situ, spacing the plants 40 to 60 cm apart along the row, in a sunny position. After emergence or planting, regular weeding and watering during dry spells are crucial to ensure optimum growth.

Harvesting takes place in September. After flowering, the inside of the flower is lined with numerous seeds, ready to be harvested.
