Charcoal filters: How to trap odors from your garden
As discussed on our horticultural ventilation page, odour management is an important aspect of indoor growing. The most common method of treating odours is the use of a carbon filter.
What is a carbon filter?
Carbon filters take the form of a cylinder filled with activated carbon, i.e. they have the capacity to retain volatile molecules. They can vary in size and weight depending on their capacity. For indoor cultivation, the carbon filter must be connected to an extractor by a duct and placed high up in your cultivation chamber, suspended. If you opt for this system, you will have to pay attention to the humidity of your growing room. Indeed, the rate will be high and the less efficient the filter will be. It is therefore up to you to find the balance between the comfort of the plant and the capacity of the filter to be effective.
How to install a carbon filter?
In a classical way, the carbon filter must be installed high up, connected to the extractor by a duct.
But you can also opt for an installation on a ventilated reflector.
Warning: The diagrams above are only intended to explain the installation of a carbon filter. It is not a complete installation.
